NCT and me - A love story

It seems there is no escaping New Communication technologies these days. I use these communication tools as much as I can. But I should warn you right away.. I am no MySpace or YouTube addict. This is my first attempt to create my own blogger universe. Nevertheless, you are very welcome!

In today's techno society almost everyone is a frequent user of communication technologies. I am too one of these communicators. I am helpless without my mobile, and I check my mail and Facebook at every opportunity. This is a way of keeping in touch with friends and family, wherever you may be at the time. I prefer mobile for texting instant messages or calling to catch up. Since I came to Australia I have been using Skype to phone over the internet. This is genius as it is cost free and real easy (even for a self proclaimed techno retard like me). I find this absolutely necessary. To kill time I chat with my friends about nothing and everything on MSN. This is not so necessary, but sort of addictive. Naturally, I find that I use communication technologies more when I am away from my friends and family than at home. Though Australia is almost the furthest away you can get from Norway (it sure seems that way when you are travelling) the distance seems a lot shorter with all these communicating tools. It is easy to stay in touch, as Norway is only a click away. When I am home I still use my mobile phone a lot, but rarely go on the internet to chat. Communication is then less of a necessity, and more for fun!

I can't even remember when I first starting using technologies like the telephone or internet. It was certainly not a conscious decision that derived from necessity. I find that some communication technologies are so in-your-face that it is hard not to buy into it. It seems like MSN Messenger installed itself on my computer. A mobile phone was handed to me at age 13 because I would look cool. I can't remember I ever felt like I needed them, but more like I was told I did. And so now, strangely I do!

wow! i really enjoyed reading that!

made me think about when the love affair between myself and the computer/phone started!

I think computer literacy is becoming increasingly popular for young primary school students - but seeing mobile phones in the hands of six and seven year olds still hasnt passed by me unquestioned! So young!

In any case, have a great one and happy blogging!
